Your Austin Optometrist

Dr. Shazeen Ali is a therapeutic optometrist specializing in primary eye care and is certified as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. A native Austinite, Dr. Ali is excited to provide exceptional eye care to the local residents of Austin.

Dr. Ali graduated from Westlake High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Advertising. She always enjoyed helping people and knew she wanted to pursue a career in the healthcare field, which is why she continued on to receive her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry, where she earned the prestigious Sigma Kappa Award from the International Optometric Honor Society. She completed specialty training through externships in cataract and laser vision correction surgery co-management, contact lenses, and the management of glaucoma.

In her spare time, Dr Ali enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures, reading, and keeping up with the latest fashion trends in the eye care business. She enjoys meeting new people and looks forward to building long-lasting relationships with her patients by focusing on their visionneeds.

As a primary eye care provider, Dr. Ali conducts comprehensive eye exams, treats common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, and prescribes glasses and contact lenses. As a therapeutic optometrist, she also treats ocular diseases such as eye infections, pink eye, dry eye, glaucoma, etc. Dr. Ali also co-manages vision correction procedures such as LASIK and cataract surgery.

Dr. Joel Trinidad is originally from a small town in Wisconsin and grew up in southwest Texas. He began his career studies by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. He then received a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, TX in 2018. Dr. Trinidad’s areas of specialty within optometry are scleral contact lens fittings, dry eye therapy, and ocular disease management.

Dr. Trinidad received extensive training in ocular disease management at his clinical rotation at the William V. Chappell Jr. Multispecialty Veteran’s Affair Clinic located in Daytona Beach, Florida. He also completed clinical training  at the Eye Centers of South Florida, a private practice ophthalmology clinic which covered a wide range of services including specialty contact lens fittings, outpatient oculoplastic surgeries, and dry eye disease management.

In his free time, Dr. Trinidad enjoys being active outdoors with his yellow lab Toby. You can find the two either biking, running, or paddle boarding down Lady Bird Lake. Dr. Trinidad also enjoys regularly attending large optometric conferences throughout the country to stay up to date with the latest advancements in ophthalmic science and technology to better serve his patients and offer innovative solutions for complex cases.

Bea Smith, Au.D. FAAA, an Ohio native, graduated with honors with an undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a minor in Special Education in 2005 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Dr. Bea graduated with her master’s and doctorate in Audiology from Indiana University in 2008.

Bea has worked at 2 top 10 children’s hospitals in the country and with an array of children with different diseases and abilities. She does research in hearing, genetics, as well as cancer and chemotherapy, and, along with her research partner, pioneered a drug to block the harmful effects of chemotherapy on hearing in certain brain cancer patients.

Bea has multiple published works and speaks at national and international conferences about hearing and her research. She has extensive experience with hearing aids and with patients of all ages and abilities. She is a former 6specialist at a hearing aid company, where she taught ENTs and Audiologists to better serve their patients for the best
treatment outcomes all over the country.

In her free time, Bea volunteers as a foster mom for a local dog rescue and has fostered over 200 dogs and puppies since starting in late 2020.

Dr. Bea loves to travel, work on home improvement projects, and spend time with her dogs, Hazel and Pfeiffer
